I'm so glad that I finally know someone who watches The Office.

Season premiere, Thursday Sept 21!

I watch it, too, and enjoy it.

I hate to be one of Those Guys, you know, the guy who rains on people's parades, but I can't help but feel this show doesn't hold up as well as its British counterpart.

The boss in the US Office, while expertly portrayed by Steve Carell, is very obviously a caricature of a hapless leader. Ricky Gervais created something so real that you were wincing as much in recognition as in laughter.

Now that I'm on it, I also think the show walked a shaky line when Jim kissed Pam, and not because he kissed her, but because the camera followed them out to the parking lot to capture the moment. It was a little too intrusive for my taste. The show kind of loses its conceit as a "documentary of office life" if it's going to follow people around in what are clearly non-work situations.

Remember that scene in the UK Office when Tim ushers Dawn into the back room and takes his microphone off to declare his feelings for her? It was a brilliant scene because we weren't privy to their private conversation -- but we all knew what was being said -- and it never compromised the basic premise of the series, that of a camera crew trying to film something for the BBC about office life.

Anyway, some minor gripes about what is really a terrific show.

Okay, that TOTALLY made me want to watch every episode of the office. Because Steve Carell is a comedic god. Not so much in "Little Miss Sunshine," but that's neither here nor there.

I haven't seen the UK version yet, BUT we do have it next in the Netflix queue. :)

Myabe if i had seen the Tim/Dawn interaction I'd be able to compare and agree with ya, but i'm a sucker for the romance they've set up with Jim/Pam, so I don't really mind.

How's Rutgers?

In defense of the US series, they have 22 episodes per season, whereas the entire run of the UK show was 12 episodes, plus a 2-part Christmas special. So it makes sense that they have to tweak the format a bit if it's going to sustain itself.
