Toothpaste for Dinner -- Inside the RIAA

This is extra funny since i saw it not long after reading this fake news article with the best. quote. ever.

MPAA and DVD Manufacturers Agree on HD-DVD Format

"Of course, some users might complain about the fact that there is no content on these discs, but we're certain our law-abiding customers will see that as a small price to pay for the security resulting from the advanced DRM. And of course, if we receive any complaints, we'll subpoena the whiners under the DMCA, because they're probably guilty of some form of copyright infringement."

New York Metro Jukebox

Sarah the Schoolteacher
Shares favorite indie-rock albums with her Park Slope students (they really like the Go! Team). Has been listening nonstop to the Mamas & the Papas for several weeks.

How awesome is that?! What the kids had to say about The Flaming Lips' "At War with the Mystics."

Sarah: The kids love this album. “The way they stop singing and just play the music, it makes me so dizzy. In a happy way,” one of them says. They don’t know the word psychedelic, but they know what it means, and they hear it here. They twirl around on the rug, saying things like “Far-out, man.” I love the songs, too; they wander all over, but with purpose, each song coming apart at times and then meshing again beautifully. “I wish all music made me feel like this,” one kid says.

K-Fed teaches Dubya and Cheney about the "wonderful" world of MySpace

And the thing is, the song he sings is ACTUALLY more catchy than a real k-fed song.

FUCK THAT SHIT

Exxon Chairman Gets $400 Million Retirement Package Amid Soaring Gas Prices

what can you even do with $400 million dollars?!?! $40 i could understand, even though that's still crazy. But $400 million?!

I can barely afford to put gas in my car (no, really, i'm not exaggerating) and this fuck gets:

Exxon is giving Lee Raymond one of the most generous retirement packages in history, nearly $400 million, including pension, stock options and other perks, such as a $1 million consulting deal, two years of home security, personal security, a car and driver, and use of a corporate jet for professional purposes.

Ugh.

why are we still awake

bananafish38: i just wrote the most ridiculous paper ever
bananafish38:
A strong attitude that I possess is that Mexican food is ridiculously delicious. Cognitively speaking, Mexican food is the object I am labeling, and I perceive its involved content to be greasy, white melting cheese with jalapenos, guacamole, shredded chicken, refried beans and lettuce atop a bed of freshly made tortilla chips. My evaluation of the object as “ridiculously delicious” has a positive direction and, speaking palatably, is fairly strong in intensity. My behavioral predisposition towards Mexican food is to not only eat it whenever possible, but to overeat to the point of misery.

bananafish38: I am not sure this attitude can be changed. I believe that even if I was informed that what I was eating was not chicken, but kitten meat, I would probably still inhale it, so long as it was covered in that cheese. The only deviation from this attitude I have ever experienced is a two month period during my sophomore year. I got food poisoning from chimichangas at my favorite Mexican restaurant in Charlotte (which will remain unnamed; I don’t really blame them, and still frequent the place).

bananafish38: I was on my third date with a boy I had really taken a liking to, and became suddenly and violently ill while we were watching a movie in my dorm room. It was an embarrassing and horrific twenty-four hour experience, and curbed my craving for a good two months or so. Yet the fact that I was again able to resume my south-of-the-border dietary habit speaks volumes on just how strong my attitude towards it is. I once got sick from a tuna melt seven years ago and still to this day refuse to eat them.

speaks for itself.

I especially like this one because it was taken in hawaii. Or so says the tag.

ALSO: the best EMO lyric katie found today:

I'll do what I got to, the truth
Is you could slit my throat
And with my one last gasping breath
I'd apologize for bleeding on your shirt.

"24" star Kiefer Sutherland has inked a multifaceted deal with 20th Century Fox Television.

The rich pact, which is set to begin in June, calls for the actor to continue on the hit Fox drama for three more years and includes a two-year development deal for Sutherland's soon-to-be-launched production banner.

And he's on/in the new Rolling Stone.

I said, whatcha whatcha whatcha want?

So Brandon's roommates have a rap group. They are the Wizzerds of Rhyme. I'd name the individual members, but you won't remember anyway.

In theory, it sounds like a bad idea; in reality, it's actually quite awesome. And they're having a free show Friday at the Reservior. (Formerly Go! Room 4, if you really haven't been paying attention.) They're on myspace, with samples: http://myspace.com/wizzerdsofrhyme

It should be fun. :) And it's at 10, so still plenty of time to get your drink on.

bananafish38: man. that show is like a soap opera. but with nerve gas and automatic weapons.

<3.

Constantly talking isn't necessarily communicating.

A friend of mine at work pointed me in the direction of Wooster Collective today after a discussion about graffiti and stenciling. Now, i've always loved graffiti, even though i'll never be ballsy enough to ever try and do it (except for the stairs on Championship night last year, which they did finally scrub off. bastards. side note: why did we actually win that game? in part it was because i had already purchased the two tiny baby blue cans of spray paint and was ready to rock and/or roll.)

And precluding the disclaimer about whining that comes with this blog, i had a really shitty weekend. I worked a lot, couldn't sleep, listened to a lot of interpol, felt really sad, worried about school, jobs, the boy that never loved me, and you know, all the traditional emo factors. So yeah. Good times. But i got home from work today and started looking through Wooster, which linked to other photo blog/whatever sites, and found amazing things like this: You Are Beautiful.

There's something that barrett has said about tattooing before, that he enjoys them so much because he feels "it's just honest." He brought that up again today when we were talking about graffiti. And maybe that's why i like it so much. It's bold and colorful and someone took the time -- and the risk -- to put a small creative vision up for more than one person to see, be it to brag or share or forwhatever reason. It's kind of along the same veins of the postsecret project -- it's so popular because it's so honest, and it feels good to know that someone else thinks the same thing. It's visual proof that you're not alone.

And it's hard to feel so bad about yourself when you're looking at pictures of iPod ads with skulls and simple scrawlings about anything.

It just makes me feel good. So i posted a few in case someone else might like one too.

my friends are nuts.

OH MY GOD NINTENDO 64!!! Brandon wanted to make sure he was properly credited with the findage of this. If my kids ever...swear to God.

Also: does anyone else love the idea that brandon is going to try and pick up chicks in boston this weekend by pretending to be a professional bowler? (with the help of malloy) yes you do.

Also: Jack Bauer gnaws through titanium wall, saves CTU.
