"Lazy Sunday"
Go Heels
My sister was making gingerbread cookies on Christmas Day. I used the 2nd half of her dough and tried an experiment. Luckily for the amount of time i invested, it worked. (I simultaneously feel really cool and 80 years old at the same time.) My mom made the dough, i rolled that shit out, made the cookies, made the frosting, colored it and then decorated. It took effing forever, but ... it's ok. :D
Phototastic
Soooooo I didn't take any pics in Key West because i don't own a digital camera and i didn't want to fight with mom over using hers. I was able to snag it on the way out to catch a pic of the water at Bahia Honda state park.
It was pretty cloudy our entire trip, so the water here isn't at vibrant as it should be, but man, when it's clear, it's gorgeous. I could really live in Florida.
We took two cars down to FL, my car and the truck, wich was also carrying the motorcyle. We dropped the truck off at my grandfather's house in Ft. Pierce and then dad rode all the way down to KW and we followed in the car. Which was fine. Except people in West Palm Beach and Miami can't drive for SHIT.
So on the way back up after stopping at Ft. Pierce, Dad, Hannah and Rach went back in the truck and mom and I took my car so we'd be able to go to St. Augustine. We'd been there when i was 18, but i really didn't remember much about it, so we went again. And it was ACTUALLY SUNNY. Go figure.
There's a lot of gorgeous architecture in that area, it being the oldest U.S. city and all. My mom had been all about Henry Flager and his building of the railroad that "crossed the ocean!" and went down to KW, so she was also excited to visit the Ponce De Leon hotel in St. A., which he built as one of the first fancy FL resorts in (i think...) the '20s. It's now Flagler College and it's quite fabulous.
This is the courtyard you walk through when you first enter.
This was above the center of the ridiculously mosaic-tiled entrance into the main foyer area. I'm really glad the colors came out so well with the digi cam.
This is Lt. Dan! I can't figure out how to reimage the pic so you can see him more closely, but you get the idea. He was just hanging outside one of the shops in the Old Spanish Quarter of St. A. After i took the pic these two tweens walked by and were like, "Look! Lit Dan!" Kids.
And oh, look, here are the Panthers discussing how they're going to lose the game against the Cowboys during a timeout. Fantastic.
the downward spiral
[this is shadow, we're still celebrating her not-dead-ness]
Aw, look, she's being really cute...
AND THEN SHE TURNS INTO THE DEVIL DOG! AH!
(someone needs to photoshop this so it actually *has* lasers shooting out of her head.)
Merry Christmas Eve!
Key West was gorgeous, and I want to move to Florida. Char isn't *that* cold right now, so that's decent. Panthers lost but it was fun, now it's time to cook and do other family things, and then a week of drinking and socializing with the old crew. Holla! :D
Mmmmm, beach
Off to sunny, sunny, no-wintry-mix-ever FLORIDA. 80 in the winter? I am totally down for that. :D

TEAM VINCENT loves CHRISTMAS
CUTE google-image roundup of puppies in christmas attire! How can you be sad about exams when this bout of adorableness is staring you in the face?
(I've also spent a few too many hours in the past 2 days making Christmas cards, so ... i'm a little too "into" the "Christmas spirit" right now.)
Whatever. DOGS! :D
X gon' give it to ya.
Ah, the X-Files. I was totally addicted to this show when i was in middle school. It used to come on on Sunday nights, and by the time it was over, everyone else in the house had usually gone to bed. So I got to turn off all the lights and run up the stairs and pray that nothing creepy would lurch at me from the darkness. To this day I still blame that show for my overactive imagination when it regards things-that-go-bump-in-the-night.
But i still love it. And it comes on TNT a lot at night now. But they haven't been playing the Mulder episodes for a while, and if there's no Mulder, there's seriously no point in watching. (Scully's dynamic with Agent T-1000 just isn't the same.) So imagine my glee when i arrive home after a ridiculous night at the bar to find ... Mulder on my TV! Score. :D

Holla at Santa!
Ah! Video Code Zone is fantastic. It's so easy to watch videos on there -- much better than Launch or MTV.
So of course I looked to the site with hope that they'd have my favorite Mariah Carey song...and they did! :D I've loved this song forever. It's just so cute and ideal for singing along to in the car with friends. I highly recommend trying it sometime.
Also, when I'm old and have the kids and the dogs, we're dressing up the dogs as reindeer for family Christmas pictures. Because that is CUTE! And follows in the same vein of dressing up the dogs for Halloween. Which still means I'm crazy, but come on. Cute!!
:D

Whatever, "Drumline" was a good movie.
Whenever i see/hear/think about Nick Cannon, I'm immediately reminded of that episode of Chappelle's show (life at 18, 24 and 30)
Chappelle: Who got the part...Nick Cannon? Who's Nick Cannon?
Chappelle's Son: Dad, Nick Cannon is hilaaarious.
Chappelle: Man fuck you son! Nick Cannon just walked away with your school clothes money. That's right! Go tell your momma i'm cussin in the house! To paraphrase my roomate when i showed her this pic: It looks like Andre 3000 threw up on him.
But, the pants. Just, why? If you stare long enough, you'll actually be able to see the Magic Eye sailboat.
"deliriosity" should be a word.
So last night when Justin was like, "you gotta see this
2pac and Barney thing!" i was quite skeptical. Turned out it was hilarious. Someone used a Barney clip and dubbed 2pac's "Hit 'Em Up" over it and it's quite silly. My favorire part kicks in at 1:31. Oh, Google video. We love you.
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
For your viewing/sending pleasure,

24-hour driving people
Hokay. So I mapquested our trip from Char to Key West. I was foolishly dreading a 12-to-13 hour trip. Driving time alone is bordering on 15, and that's not including stops.
Oy. And since we're taking my lovely lil saturn, i've gotta get it serviced and cleaned out before Friday.
Which wouldn't be so bad, except...the trunk is full. of. crap. Boxes of CD cases and soda bottles, old ESPN magazines, numerous copies of DTHs, 2 pairs of heels, a tennis racket and Scrabble.
Why? Because you never know when you're gonna need to pull off the road for a fancy party that you can tote your board games into with either choice of heels? Man, who knows.
So I'm going to need to make some mixes to help pass the time. I made an okay Christmas one over Thnxgiving break, but i may have to turn this one ---
The Test Pilot--- into a cd. It was linked on Stereogum a few days ago, and it's quite the excellent mix. The author was also kind enough to link everything as an MP3, so take a listen.
His tracklist:
Angels We Have Heard On High - Sufjan Stevens
Winter Wonderland - Phantom Planet
Yule Shoot Your Eye Out - Fall Out Boy
Jingle Bells - Barenaked Ladies
Last Christmas - Jimmy Eat World
All I Want For Christmas Is You - My Chemical Romance
Christmas (Baby. Please Come Home) - Death Cab for Cutie
Come On! Let's Boogey to the Elf Dance! - Sufjan Stevens
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - Jack Johnson
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Coldplay
The Christmas Song - the Raveonettes
Christmastime - Smashing Pumpkins
When I Get Home For Christmas - Snow Patrol
Christmas Party - the Walkmen
Jinglebell Rock - the Arcade Fire
That Was the Worst Christmas Ever! - Sufjan Stevens
Happy Christmas (War Is Over) - John Ondrasik
The New Year - Death Cab for Cutie(Except for My Chemical Romance's cover of Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You." I LOVE THAT SONG. And they butcher it. Because they are bad and the lead can't sing. Ew. Take off the emo ties and go take some lessons. Or crawl into a hole and never come back. Either would be fine.)
Anyway, it'll be worth it by the time we get there. It's been 80 during the day. So it'll kinda be like those Corona commercials, what with the lights-in-the-palms trees and people chucking their cell phones into the surf. Except, instead of destroying my shitty phone, i just won't be using it since i'm the last person in the country without nationwide service.
So, a 15 hour drive, a week with my family, no phone, no cigs and presumably no internet service?
At least I'll come back with a tan.

Public Service Announcement
Allow me to reintroduce myself ... k, it's not Hova, but still, good stuff to know.
If you haven't already read about it, there are a some new
AIM viruses out there floating around, and they're mimicking those annoying AOL Bots. They talk back to you and say stuff like "lol it's not a virus." I know most of yall are too smart to click on suspicious links, but they're getting tricky.
The most notable new threat is the IM.Myspace04.AIM worm. It attempts to convince AIM users to download malicious content. Once infected, the host acts as a bot by sending out new messages to infect others, plus responding blindly to messages it receives.
"When recipients of the malicious message reply to the infected user," IMlogic said in a release, "the Bot running on the infected machine sends follow-up messages that include "lol no its not its a virus."
The company added that one such message includes a URL to a .pif file on the myphotos.cc domain. So there's that, which sounds quite fun, and then this:
Separately, a new variant of last winter's Aimdes worm has emerged. San Diego-based Akonix Systems Inc., Cupertino, Calif.-based Trend Micro Inc. and others report that W32/Aimdes.E is also propagating over the AIM network.
Classified as low risk, it spreads in the form of an IM greeting sent from one user to another. Trend Micro reports that it typically is accompanies by the following text:
This AIM user has sent you a Greetings Card, to open it visit: http://g{BLOCKED}aol.com/index.pd?source=christmastheme?my_christmas_card.COM
Once a user clicks the link, the worm installs itself on the host.So just be careful.

Gargling salt water is quite underrated
Take a look at this poor giraffe's face. That's exactly how i feel right now. Cough, cough. Miserable, really. Although i've thoroughly convinced myself it's not strep, thanks to Google and that fact that there are no white spots and no swollen glands.
I suppose that maybe i should take this in stride as the jump start to the "Christmas Family Vacation Break in the Keys quit-smoking-a-thon 2005."
Going cold turkey seems to be the way to go, seeing as how i definitely cannot afford nicotine patches, nor should i consider myself that serious of a smoker. although i'm afraid of how serious it really is. I've never really tried before, since I can be quite flighty and never made a true dedicated effort that lasted more than a week. It'll be tough to do the beer-sans-cigs thing, but ... i doubt i'll be drinking much on the family vaca, so at least i can distance myself from it for a while.
Anyway.
Fun things:
Cute! So cute. (Even though his hair looks like he just rolled out of bed.)
Lost's Naveen Andrews and Maggie Grace were at a "Breakout Stars" awards thing for Hollywood Life Magazine earlier in the week. Maggie -- who played Shannon and was KILLED OFF "Lost" in October -- won an award! Take that, writers.
She's lovely, and they seem like fun people, and I'm unhealthily obsessed with the show. I miss her charac too, but she's testing the waters for film, starting with "The Fog." We'll see where she goes. Also, by killing her off, they ensured that they wouldn't have to bother with having Boone back for any more flashbacks. 2 birds, one stone. Too bad he was the hottest charac on the show. (and hi, i'm 14 and apparently renewing my subscription to Tiger Beat.

My personal favorite: I like baked potatoes, man. I don't have a microwave oven, and it takes

Wolverine'll save us
X3 teaserYessssssssssssss!
I love these movies and even though they got a new direx (Brett Ratner) for this one, it still looks like it'll be good.
All the old favorites (Hugh!) seem to be back, as well as a few new characs. I was never into the comics, but i know quite a few people that are hype to see Colossus and Beast (blue guy to the left, played by Kesley Grammer, of all people.)
"Why? Who are you?! I don't know you!"
Oh Kanye, you so crazy.
As usual, he's still running around proclaiming his self importance -- and now it's just in time for the Grammy nominations. (And he did it while wearing a sweater that reeks of Christmas spirit and was obviously borrowed from his 14-year-old cousin.)
Of course he got 8 nods, but if he doesn't win album of the year people, "I'm really gonna have a problem with that."
iFilm has the video. Enjoy.

"They found a fragment, big deal," Ballard said. "Am I surprised? No. When you go down there, there's stuff all over the place. It hit an iceberg and it sank. Get over it."mm hmm, you best get to steppin.

Random fun:
Dino comix!:
http://www.qwantz.com/index.pl?comic=456It is two days after the fact, but check out the
DTH's coverage of the UNC-UK game. Includes a nice pic of WES MILLA LADY KILLA looking like he has no control over the ball sitch. But that's ok, because he played himself a nice little game.
In other bball news, yes, it sucks that Dook was able to beat VT, but a slim beating is much better than a complete shut down. Nice to see VT actually give them a run for their money. Also nice to see (6'4", 190) JJ try and draw the charge from (6'6", 213) Vassallo, resulting in JJ looking like he hit a brick wall and legitimately falling (not flopping) onto his ass. Priceless.
Go to hell Dook.

(uh uh uh uh,) you got to keep on moooovin'. You have to love them. I mean, that was just a carter-esque dunk right there. (some are saying jordan, i'll take it either way.) And for the record, i'd like to state that i've loved noel ever since he passed on his football scholly to play bball. I put a huge iron-on "34" on the back of my fever shirt his freshman year. :D
(We also tailored Eowyn's so that it sad "Melvin's #1!" -- or as she would say,

Before i forget
Old school:
Ms. Lauren Greenie, January 2003:So...Chapel Hill. Yeah, it's nice, yeah, it's fun, yeah, it feels like a real school---college, even---but I probably won't transfer. Don't know why...too much of a hassle...??? Who knows? I sorta just wish I had gone here to begin with. Approximately 98% of my high school "posse" (as I've so fondly taken to calling them) wound up here. It's as though there's a pied piper of Myers Park High School that makes his annual trek across campus, leading unsuspecting IB students through that sky blue portal where they soon meet their inevitable fate as a tar-heel on the other side. That's just the way things work around here.
The other 2% of us must have had that nasty stomach virus the day the pied-piper came around and chose other schools. For a while we prided ourselves on the fact that we managed to avoid four years of face-painting and howling like a banshee over sporting events, a baby blue wardrobe, and of course, thousands upon thousands of beer-gutted, north-face clad frat boys.
Things that everyone else seemed to be so curiously drawn to. Not to mention the lifetime of fund-seeking alumni letters adorned with the infamous columned well (which is actually small and unimpressive met face to fountain) that will follow you no matter how many times you move, change your name, enter the witness protection agency--they will always find your mailbox.
We were the brave ones. The ones who dreamed of something different...something our own. Either that or we just didn't get in and you're hiding behind the "dare to be different" facade (The trap lies in the application. If you apply to Caroli! na, and you get in to Carolina, you Go to Carolina. You can't turn it down.)
And now, a year and a half into our college experiences, 98% of my beloved non-carolinian 2% are dropping like flies. If freshman year is any indication of the future, the "best four years of our lives" are fast becoming the "most mediocre four years of our lives." So what is everyone doing about it? TRANSFERRING. To where? CHAPEL HILL. I'm beginning to think that there really is no other place to be.
After 2 1/2 visits here and some somewhat-careful thought and consideration, I've realized that there is a reason the majority is the majority. There's a reason that every drunk concert go-er this side of the Mississippi shouts "FREEEEBIRRRD" at any show they go to. (Beyond intoxication and redneck tendencies) It's a fucking good song. And Chapel Hill is a fucking good school. It has everything. Academics, athletics, a gorgeous campus, Franklin street...there's an intelligence level among students high enough to be challenging, but brought down to a not-so-intimidating level by class discussions including phrases such as "more stupider" or invented words such as "ethicalness".
So what's stopping me? I don't know...perhaps I need to make a trip back to good ol' MP and ask the pied piper to show me the way.
Ok, ok, i give in.
Ok. I used to hate Fall Out Boy bc of that damn song that wouldn't leave me alone, "Sugar We're Going Down." But they obviously love the simpsons and i just read that they hate MySpace fanatics, so, two points. And the latest single is catchy as hell. I can't help it. Three.
Here's the vid!
The boys look good
